One of my favorite Glee songs greeted me at the door of Chelsea’s parents’ house. A sweet puppy decked in his tuxedo ran about looking for a comfortable spot. It was so very Chelsea – a bit of chaos, some karaoke, and family and friends all around.

Meanwhile Brian headed over to Taylor Seminary for some ping pong with the boys.

We’ve known James for a long time through Brian’s brother Andrew – who happened to be one of the groomsmen. He’s single ladies…

James and Chelsea were married at the Taylor Chapel… I loved that they had a centre aisle as most churches don’t have one!








This spring we introduced a new service that you can add on to any reception coverage. It’s our Pohltography crazy “booth”. We set up a booth during the reception for you and your guests to enjoy. You can grab a silly hat, strike a pose, write a meaningful message to the bride and groom, or get a picture with the sister or friend you don’t get to often see! Here’s a sample of the fun we had at James and Chelsea’s wedding.

We had so much fun at their wedding – it will be memorable in my mind always as the wedding I was oh so very pregnant. They were all (Rothe’s and Ohlmann’s alike) so good to me! I couldn’t have done it for anyone else and enjoyed it half as much!

A few months ago I blogged about James and Chelsea’s awesome engagement shoot as well as mentioned that my brother-in-law came along to film the shoot. I thought I would share with you one of the videos taken – this is a peek into the fun we have when we go out on a shoot!

Last weekend, or perhaps now that we’re through Easter weekend I should say the weekend before that, Brian and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary. We spent that day in our usual way – close to home, giving each other cheeky grins all day and saying “you’re my favorite {husband/wife}”. I’m sometimes often not very patient or kind like the famed love chapter in I Corinthians 13 talks about – but Brian and I do work on loving each other every day and have committed to doing that for the rest of our lives.

As we grow “more married” it’s been fun to discover not only who we are as individuals but who we are as a couple. I think every couple has a personality – it’s own dynamic. If we were to get married all over again today I think our wedding would look very different than it did 6 years ago. We’re not as formal a couple as we maybe thought we could be back then? For example – our favorite romantic tradition is hot dogs at Ikea. Not joking…it’s how we do valentines day and at least one of the meals on our anniversary. The sappy reason for that is that we just enjoy each other and spending time with each other and find more to talk about in a crowded store restaurant then when we’ve dressed up to spend a night on the town (pressure!) The real reason is that I love hot dogs…no I LOVE hot dogs. I could eat them for breakfast lunch and dinner. Hot dogs in a cheap Swedish furniture store?…GENIUS! Brian doesn’t have quite the same love affair for hot dogs but he does love that they are cheap. (Shhh…I’m not sure it’s dawned on him that what he’s saved in hot dogs is spent elsewhere in the store )

Anyway all this to say that recently I stumbled across this awesome blog that is constantly being updated with photos from all kinds of weddings. What I love about this blog is seeing all the details and being inspired by them. Those of you who have had a wedding shot by myself and Brian know that I LOVE the details of your day. It’s what helps me to get to know you even more! I love seeing what things you’ve chosen to represent you as a couple, or just even what adds to the fun your guests have at your wedding.

And because no blog post is complete without a picture or two…These are some of my personal favorite details from just a few of the weddings I’ve shot this last year. I had the pleasure of being a second shooter for Lisa Lacroix last summer and fall and many of the fabulous detail shots seen here are from those weddings.

We met Laura and Darcy back last fall as they were planning their 2010 wedding. I remember telling Brian afterward that I hoped they would book with us because I just wanted to work with them! I love meeting couples that just can’t take their eyes off each other. This was Darcy and Laura.

And we finished up at Block 1912 a great little coffee shop on Whyte Ave!

After my last post featuring many beautiful winter scenes I feel cold. Time for a quick spring warm up!

I’m really excited about these images… so much so that my mind goes a little blank and I think…nobody really wants to hear me blather on about the weather etc etc right? But I DO need to mention the weather – it will give you some perspective on how amazing James and Chelsea are (not to mention the crew I had with me!) I had been watching the weather and hearing highs of -6 C and sunny and thinking…ok if I shoot fast we should make it…-6 isn’t bad. Well the morning of this particular session dawned neither clear nor bright – but the hoar frost on the trees that morning was spectacular. As if God had painted each tree with frosty snowy icing! The downside of this was that it was cold…freaking cold…and nowhere near -6. I think we hit -15 C that morning. Added to this my very talented brother in law Andrew Pohl was filming this particular shoot for another project we are working on together (more of that to come). So I of course did not want to wear my big puffy winter jacket… and of course James and Chelsea didn’t want to spend the whole time in boots and hats and mitts and parkas… so we decided to see how far we could get before we were frozen.

My friends….frozen came and left us a several times in this shoot…more often than not numb took over…which made it not so bad. James and Chelsea lasted 2.5 hours! (can you hear me slow clapping them?) This resulted in some seriously awesome images. So thank you to them for sticking it out and for Brian (who again took some of my favorite shots from the day) and Andrew who stuck it out with us as well! Enjoy the sneak peek!

This blog post is long long long overdue – and it’s taken me even longer because I had trouble deciding even which images to include – we have so many that I’m thrilled with!

First we met up at Heather’s house for the traditional figuring out of the dress – I mean getting dressed…

Meanwhile Brian caught up with Kevin and two of the groomsmen. We were missing Heather’s brother at this point, but I still love this shot Brian took.

Flowers and Rings…they make my day! (one of my favorite parts of shooting a wedding is shooting all the detail shots. I love everything about them – the details are part of what makes your wedding day so unique for every couple!)

Heather and Kevin were married in an absolutely beautiful ceremony at Central Baptist Church. I have to put a plug in here for their lighting. If you have the chance to use stage lighting…DO! It’s wonderful to work with and many of our images were taken without the use of a flash.

After the ceremony we went off to do some formals! Here’s one of ALL the groomsmen (and adorable ring bearers – who did amazing I might add).

And on to the Rutherford House! I had never been here before Kevin and Heather took me. What an amazing house. So many great places to shoot!

And on to the reception! A number of birthdays were being celebrated…including Heather’s! (Brian says that Kevin is a smart man to have arranged that! He only has to remember one day!)

To get the lovely couple to kiss a representative(s) had to come up and sing a song or recite a poem. I loved this performance!

It feels so good to write those words.  “Edmonton Wedding Photographer”  I have to start out talking a little about me (I promise I’ll get back to the good stuff in a sec).  Ever since I started taking photography seriously I have wanted to be a wedding photographer.  But everything I read told me that I was not prepared – I heard “bad idea – run away – weddings = stress”.    I played the denial game for some time – answering people with “maybe someday – but it’s not really in my plans.”  And yet…when buying equipment a tiny little part in the back of my head always did a mental check about whether the purchase would work for weddings…”someday” (of course).

But this isn’t new behavior for me.  I don’t know why (and maybe someday a therapist will have a field day with this) but I do the denial thing often!  Just after Brian and I were engaged, his mom asked me what my favorite color was.  “Oh I don’t know…pink maybe?”  But I’d go shopping and see a red purse and think – oh my goodness that is the most amazing purse ever.  Or maybe I’d see a car and think “I love that car”  (Red VW Jettas were the rage I believe).  I remember my moment of truth – Brian and I were walking through the parking lot at Ikea a few weeks before our wedding.  I, of course was exclaiming over something we had seen in the store and I wanted – and wasn’t it the most perfect thing you’ve ever seen when Brian decides it’s time for an intervention.  What color was that most perfect thing ever?  Yup – Red.  It’s a sick obsession with me really – I can’t believe I denied it for so long.

Now really it’s the same with Wedding Photography – I’ve secretly obsessed about it for some time – and now I am ready to come out of the closet so to speak!

I first met Amy when she was maybe 6 or 7 – around the time my sister married her uncle!  We’ve talked in passing at various full family gatherings and she’s probably one of the sweetest girls I know!  Quick to lend a hand or get kids occupied and she is much adored by lots of children as she runs a successful business teaching Music for Young Children classes.

Adam, I had heard alot about over the years they dated but met for the first time (I think) when they came to me for engagement photos.  Right away I was impressed by his ready laugh (at my bad jokes) and obvious love for Amy.  I mean anyone who laughs at or with me is my friend for life…really.

I love that this couple gave me the chance to do something I really love.  So I thank them for that and leave you with a few moments from their day!
