About Conni

What makes me

God – he’s the foundation of my life, the savior of my soul, and I am nothing without him.

My husband Brian – We met when we were 17, in a highschool physics class.  I remember the physics teacher asking Brian if he was studying my “electromagnetic spectrum” instead of paying attention in class.  (or something to that effect – the years make the physics terms foggy).  We didn’t really date until 5 years later and were married just over a year after that.  He is truely my best friend, soulmate, and the best business partner I could ever ask for.  Not to mention a wonderful father.

My kids – Hunter – my cautious 4 year old, and Adelle, my crazy 3 year old and Eve my newest sweet baby. Time moves too quickly and they are only mine for but a moment.

Coffee - ok I confess...it's more about the sweet yummy creamers than the coffee but I'm not sure me, my children, or my business would survive without it!

Pugs – I love pugs!  Really any "ugly" dog - I love the smushed faces! We have one named Loki – he was my first baby.

My photographer friends - constantly pushing me to try more, do better.  Thank you girls - you know who you are!

Out of Office

Almost 6 years ago I stumbled onto an online forum after discovering I was pregnant with Hunter. I met some amazing people online, and have had the pleasure of developing close friendships with a few of them. I love this world full of technology that brings having a pen pal to a totally different level. Anyway from that place I connected with a group of seriously amazing photographers who all had similar goals to me in terms of striving to perfect their craft. It has made me the photographer I am today – and is helping me be the photographer I want to be and will be in the future! It’s definitely something I recommend to anyone with an interest in getting started in this industry – find someone(s) who will be completely honest with you about your work… put aside ego… and listen!

Once a year for the last couple of years we try to get together. Every year I’m so thankful that we have been able to make it a priority even in the busiest of times for me to be able to get away and have this break! I’m so excited to be once again meeting up with dear friends, doing what we love… oh… and SHOPPING! I may have a small thing for a certain store who’s name starts with a “T” and ends with “arget” ;)

So with all that said… I will be out of office starting tomorrow (August 10th) until Thursday August 18th. I will return calls and e-mails when I return!

And with that I’ll leave you with an image from last week’s session with triplet baby boys! They were so sweet! I’ll have a full blog post of them coming up!

Pocket full of sunshine | Edmonton Photographer

I don’t often take landscape type pictures – I’m definitely a “people” photographer but I had to share a couple from a recent camping/diving trip we did. Father’s Day weekend is an annual treasure hunt dive event at Twin Lakes (Brian is a scuba diver) hosted by the Wing Diver Club. We’re a hardy family so we lasted through the days and days of non-stop rain but I was thrilled when we got literally two hours of sunshine in and amongst 4 days of straight rain!

“Story of my eyes” | Edmonton Child Photographer

Today has been a quiet day around the house. I’ve been busy getting a couple sessions ready for their galleries and the kids have been playing quietly on their own which was a blessing after a rather rough start to the day (I’ve been washing bedding all morning lol). In my editing zone I was a little annoyed to hear Eve crying from her room where she was supposed to be having an extra long nap today…she apparently didn’t get the memo.

I decided to take a break and take a couple shots of my poor neglected 3rd child… soon enough her sister came down and joined us in her mismatched purple velour sweat pants, t-shirt and of course pink dress (3rd dress of the day) that she threw overtop. I confess…I contemplated asking her to change clothes or telling her to get out of my shot. I bit my tongue, though maneuvered myself to only take pictures of Eve…

Hunter came down and I asked him to “read” Eve a story. He squints his eyes at me and asks “can I tell a story of my eyes?” That didn’t fit my vision…plus I had no idea what he was talking about! I insisted he read to her…

When I finished taking the picture of him reading to her I got up and put my camera down. He looks at me and asks once again to “tell the story of my eyes”. Sure Hunter – go nuts… He proceeds to squeeze his eyes tightly shut and start with “Once upon a time there was a space ranger named Hunter, a princess named Agelle, and a dragon named Eve.”

…and I’m ashamed by my impatience with him… Dear Hunter – I LOVE your imagination – never lose the ability to “tell the story of your eyes”.

In a far away land…

a long time ago…

I had the opportunity to head down to Atlanta, Georgia to hang out and shoot with some dear friends of mine! You see I have this amazing group of online friends who also just so happen to be some of the best photographers I know! We are a small, tight group that encourages, inspires, and VERY honest with each other’s work. Like girlfriends that will tell you that you probably shouldn’t wear horizontal stripes these girls are the ones to tell me when something just doesn’t work!

Anyway last year we met up and spent the weekend shopping (they allow me to get my Target fix when I’m down there :) ), laughing, and shooting! We had some amazing locations and great people that came out and let us shoot them! It’s been awhile since that trip but I did want to share them and say a special thank you to Sarah from BerryTreePhotography who was an amazing and gracious host to all of us!

I love that down south they do “Bridal Sessions” What a great way to make sure you get to wear your dress more than once!

Another personal note | Edmonton Child Photographer

Every age and stage is “my favorite” especially when it comes to my own kids. I love the soft curly newborn stage that I’m usually too sleep deprived to fully enjoy, and the more interactive stage at 6 months when love to look at you and smile but they usually can’t move anywhere (best stage for photography!!) As they get older I discover things I love about the age they are at. Eve hit the 6 month mark in January but decided to take her time getting active and didn’t actually sit on her own until last month (woohoo! Just the kind of pace I like!) A few of my favs of her…

I do love me a cute nekie bum!

She’s Three | Edmonton Child Photographer

Dear Adelle, You have rocked my world. When you came into my life 3 yrs, 9 months, and two weeks ago – you were a complete surprise. Then you continued to rock my world by showing up two weeks late to your own birthday party after a very difficult day (and tried to crash our anniversary to boot!). I won’t forget it that is for sure! From day one you have taught me to be reliant on God rather than myself, and I thank you for that.

I love you and all that you are. You are love and crazy rolled into one. I love your princess obsession, but hope that I can teach you that true beauty is what God thinks of you and not how sparkly your dress is.

I love the special relationship you have with your brother and hope that as you grow older together that you will remain close.

I love your obsession with soft things! We know how well received something is by the way you simultaneously reach out one hand while putting your thumb in your mouth. You did it when you were 6 months old with your favorite puppy and you did it a few months ago when you met your baby sister (and her soft head) for the first time.

You can be stubborn, but even as we work through toddler issues, I know that God is shaping you to be an incredible woman who will lead rather than follow, love when it’s not the popular thing to do, and choose Him even in the difficult times.

I love you Adelle and wish you the happiest of third birthdays!

Winter Blues

This is one overdue blog post. My blog here is the first to go when things get crazy! I’m so excited though to show you the reason why my last blog post declared me to be out of office…

this….

and this…

and wonderful this…

Brian, Eve, and myself flew down to Mexico with Brian’s family to enjoy some serious R&R. Brian worked on his Advanced Open Water Scuba Diving certification, as well as enjoyed some dives just for fun, and baby Eve and I worked on our tans…well ok I worked on my tan while Eve transformed into a dream baby who slept, cooed, and giggled every day. (She has since recovered and is back to her “colourful” (ie…screaming) ways).

Mexico seems like a million years ago… especially since I’m throwing snow onto piles above my head when I shovel our driveway right now!! Tonight I dream of the warm sandy beaches of Mexico.

DKTBLEG | Edmonton Family Photographer

DKTBLEG sounds like texting slang! Daring Kitty Turns Black Lego Eggplant Green…hmmmm…or not. What it actually is the initials of this family of 6 plus their dog Gunnar. Last fall I did a family session for my sister and her family and this year with baby Eve making her appearance we weren’t sure if we would get a session in. Fortunately we fit it into our camping trip we had last week. It was good to shake the dust off my camera and get back into shooting mode before fall hits us!

Oh Bo…you’re “schoooo Gorgeoush” ;)

Changes

A week ago Monday I went from looking like this…

to…ok well I’m not going to show you my belly in the aftermath – but meet our latest addition, Evelyn Esther (aka… baby Eve)

Just like her sister she was comfy cozy and had to be encouraged out via an induction. And while there may have been some rather emotional moments while I was in early labour and felt like she was never going to come out – it was probably the best and easiest birth experience of my three kids. I was able to labour at home for several hours before heading in to the hospital – and she arrived just over an hour after we got there – only missing her brother’s birthday by less than an hour and a half!

I have some blogging to catch up on from sessions completed prior to Eve’s birth but in general we have closed the office for the next few weeks. As many of you know with your own babies, this time is so short and it’s so important to make the most of it. We will not be scheduling any sessions for the remainder of July and August and may be a bit slower to respond to e-mails during this time as well.

We are, however, already anticipating the fall, which is looking to be our busiest season yet! Because of this time in our lives, the number of sessions we can take on will be limited – but there will be some amazing deals! We will be announcing our fall/Christmas specials in the next few weeks! We are taking bookings for September and on. Saturdays book up quickly so if you are wanting a weekend session we encourage you to book sooner than later.

As well we will be unveiling a new logo and website in the next couple months. Thanks everyone for your patience as we sort out our lives as parents to 3!
