About Conni

What makes me

God – he’s the foundation of my life, the savior of my soul, and I am nothing without him.

My husband Brian – We met when we were 17, in a highschool physics class.  I remember the physics teacher asking Brian if he was studying my “electromagnetic spectrum” instead of paying attention in class.  (or something to that effect – the years make the physics terms foggy).  We didn’t really date until 5 years later and were married just over a year after that.  He is truely my best friend, soulmate, and the best business partner I could ever ask for.  Not to mention a wonderful father.

My kids – Hunter – my cautious 4 year old, and Adelle, my crazy 3 year old and Eve my newest sweet baby. Time moves too quickly and they are only mine for but a moment.

Coffee - ok I confess...it's more about the sweet yummy creamers than the coffee but I'm not sure me, my children, or my business would survive without it!

Pugs – I love pugs!  Really any "ugly" dog - I love the smushed faces! We have one named Loki – he was my first baby.

My photographer friends - constantly pushing me to try more, do better.  Thank you girls - you know who you are!

Edmonton Wedding Photographer | Shawn & Alex

I had the pleasure of being the second photographer for Lisa Lacroix for Shawn and Alex’s wedding a few weeks ago. I really enjoy being able to take a step back and try some different things which I can do more easily as a second shooter! Plus I really enjoy working with Lisa. :) She told me that the couple was gorgeous and the bride had a great sense of style – I think that was an understatement! I started the morning off with the boys in the couple’s gorgeous house!

Groomsmen get ready

Then we headed to the church to wait for the girls…

they might have been a tad fashionably late…
Groomsmen Waiting

When the girls arrived I popped around to see Alex and I kid you not… she took my breath away. She is so stunning!

Trying to beat the nasty clouds in the distance we beat it over to Northern Bear Golf Course which is probably my favourite venue to date!

It was such a fun reception and I really enjoyed hearing how Alex and Shawn met… which was remarkably similar to how Brian and I met… in a physics 30 class. I’m telling you girls… forget the grocery store… physics is the new place to pick up a man! ;)

And then enjoyed their first dance

Edmonton Engagement Photographer | Love

The grass is getting green and I think I saw some little buds on a neighbor’s hedge as we walked by the other night!  Spring, though late here as always, is on it’s way!  This time of year quickly becomes my 2nd favorite as we lose the dirt and snow and start living outside for the few short months we have nicer weather!  Reminds me of my trip down to Atlanta where we shot a beautiful couple in this amazing winery!  So much green, such beautiful weather.  It makes me want to burst out with “Oh what a beautiful morning….”  Ok I’m done – you can unplug your ears now! ;)

Also just a little note that my weekend sessions going into the summer are starting to fill up! If you want a saturday session make sure to book soon to avoid disappointment!

In a far away land…

a long time ago…

I had the opportunity to head down to Atlanta, Georgia to hang out and shoot with some dear friends of mine! You see I have this amazing group of online friends who also just so happen to be some of the best photographers I know! We are a small, tight group that encourages, inspires, and VERY honest with each other’s work. Like girlfriends that will tell you that you probably shouldn’t wear horizontal stripes these girls are the ones to tell me when something just doesn’t work!

Anyway last year we met up and spent the weekend shopping (they allow me to get my Target fix when I’m down there :) ), laughing, and shooting! We had some amazing locations and great people that came out and let us shoot them! It’s been awhile since that trip but I did want to share them and say a special thank you to Sarah from BerryTreePhotography who was an amazing and gracious host to all of us!

I love that down south they do “Bridal Sessions” What a great way to make sure you get to wear your dress more than once!

Wilhelm + Amy Wedding | Edmonton Wedding Photographer

Last month Brian and I had the privilege of capturing Amy and Wilhelm’s wedding! Amy is “Miss Amy” to many children who love her – including my own! She truely has a gift for spending time with them and making them feel loved. I attend a Ladies program every week at Ellerslie Road Baptist Church where Adelle and Hunter and Eve all go to age appropriate kids classes. It’s been great for them and I sure have appreciated the time with adults. But I didn’t quite realize the impact Amy had on my Adelle until I was working on editing the images from their engagement session. I sat at my computer half listening to my kids playing in the next room and working on the session. Suddenly Adelle was climbing up on my lap happily exclaiming “That’s Miss Amy!” I paused…she hadn’t ever mentioned any of her teachers by name before – being 2 I was lucky if I got more than a “uh huh” when I ask her questions about her class. She continued on to talk about how nice Miss Amy was and how much she loved her!

As I photographed Wilhelm and Amy’s wedding it became apparent how loved both of them were. What a testament to the kind of people they are and how much they love God. Here are some favorites from their day.

Getting ready before their “first look” at the Muttart Conservatory…

A “First Look” is when the bride and groom choose to see each other prior to the ceremony. As a photographer I love them because it allows for a smoother, more seamless day! We can do family and bridal party pictures before hand freeing them up after the ceremony to mingle and enjoy out-of-town guests. For the couple I think it takes the stress off the rest of the day. It gives the couple the chance to see each other for the first time away from all the eyes that are on you during the ceremony and be able to react and enjoy each other for a moment.

Caught a few moments with them! Wilhelm is a horticulturalist with the Muttart Conservatory so it was particularly meaningful to get pictures done there! It was beautiful!

A few details…

And finally a few from their reception! Amy and Wilhelm booked our photobooth as well which as always was so much fun! Here is a sample! Thanks to all of you who participated!

What a wonderful day – thanks so much for making our job so great Amy and Wilhelm!

Delicious Albums | Edmonton Wedding Photographer

Some of you may remember James and Chelsea’s gorgeous wedding a few months ago! Just before Christmas I got their wedding albums in… and just about called Chelsea up and told her that they uh…had gotten lost…um yeah. I mean really…is it wrong to want to keep someone else’s wedding album?

I love how it lays flat!

This is not your mother’s wedding album! (sorry mom…yours is nice and all!)

I think it’s so important to have more than a cd of wedding photos at the end of the day. Real life gets in the way, and even though most people think they will do *something* with their images…they sit on a cd more often than not. I’ve recently made some changes to our 2011 Wedding Packages. All but our specialty coverage package now includes an album!

If you or someone you know is getting married this year, drop us a line! We’d love to talk to you!

James and Chelsea – the wedding | Edmonton Wedding Photographe

One of my favorite Glee songs greeted me at the door of Chelsea’s parents’ house. A sweet puppy decked in his tuxedo ran about looking for a comfortable spot. It was so very Chelsea – a bit of chaos, some karaoke, and family and friends all around.

Meanwhile Brian headed over to Taylor Seminary for some ping pong with the boys.

We’ve known James for a long time through Brian’s brother Andrew – who happened to be one of the groomsmen. He’s single ladies… ;)

Love this shot from Brian of the boys heading to the chapel.

James and Chelsea were married at the Taylor Chapel… I loved that they had a centre aisle as most churches don’t have one!

This spring we introduced a new service that you can add on to any reception coverage. It’s our Pohltography crazy “booth”. We set up a booth during the reception for you and your guests to enjoy. You can grab a silly hat, strike a pose, write a meaningful message to the bride and groom, or get a picture with the sister or friend you don’t get to often see! Here’s a sample of the fun we had at James and Chelsea’s wedding.

We had so much fun at their wedding – it will be memorable in my mind always as the wedding I was oh so very pregnant. They were all (Rothe’s and Ohlmann’s alike) so good to me! I couldn’t have done it for anyone else and enjoyed it half as much!

Congratulations on your marriage James and Chelsea and God bless you two as you tackle Trinity Western together!

What fun looks like | Edmonton Engagement Photographer

A few months ago I blogged about James and Chelsea’s awesome engagement shoot as well as mentioned that my brother-in-law came along to film the shoot. I thought I would share with you one of the videos taken – this is a peek into the fun we have when we go out on a shoot!

Thanks again to Andrew Pohl!

The little things | Edmonton Wedding Photographer

Last weekend, or perhaps now that we’re through Easter weekend I should say the weekend before that, Brian and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary. We spent that day in our usual way – close to home, giving each other cheeky grins all day and saying “you’re my favorite {husband/wife}”. I’m sometimes often not very patient or kind like the famed love chapter in I Corinthians 13 talks about – but Brian and I do work on loving each other every day and have committed to doing that for the rest of our lives.

As we grow “more married” it’s been fun to discover not only who we are as individuals but who we are as a couple. I think every couple has a personality – it’s own dynamic. If we were to get married all over again today I think our wedding would look very different than it did 6 years ago. We’re not as formal a couple as we maybe thought we could be back then? For example – our favorite romantic tradition is hot dogs at Ikea. Not joking…it’s how we do valentines day and at least one of the meals on our anniversary. The sappy reason for that is that we just enjoy each other and spending time with each other and find more to talk about in a crowded store restaurant then when we’ve dressed up to spend a night on the town (pressure!) The real reason is that I love hot dogs…no I LOVE hot dogs. I could eat them for breakfast lunch and dinner. Hot dogs in a cheap Swedish furniture store?…GENIUS! Brian doesn’t have quite the same love affair for hot dogs but he does love that they are cheap. (Shhh…I’m not sure it’s dawned on him that what he’s saved in hot dogs is spent elsewhere in the store ;) )

Anyway all this to say that recently I stumbled across this awesome blog that is constantly being updated with photos from all kinds of weddings. What I love about this blog is seeing all the details and being inspired by them. Those of you who have had a wedding shot by myself and Brian know that I LOVE the details of your day. It’s what helps me to get to know you even more! I love seeing what things you’ve chosen to represent you as a couple, or just even what adds to the fun your guests have at your wedding.

And because no blog post is complete without a picture or two…These are some of my personal favorite details from just a few of the weddings I’ve shot this last year. I had the pleasure of being a second shooter for Lisa Lacroix last summer and fall and many of the fabulous detail shots seen here are from those weddings.

Darcy and Laura | Edmonton Wedding Photographer

We met Laura and Darcy back last fall as they were planning their 2010 wedding. I remember telling Brian afterward that I hoped they would book with us because I just wanted to work with them! I love meeting couples that just can’t take their eyes off each other. This was Darcy and Laura.

Here are some of my favorites from their wedding day.

Then we grabbed some pics out at Queen Elizabeth Park.

And we finished up at Block 1912 a great little coffee shop on Whyte Ave!

Thanks for letting us be a part of your wedding day Darcy and Laura!
